Technically speaking, Remarketing works by placing a Java Script tag on all of your web pages that you want to create audiences or segments to target later. As more visitors come to your site that has the Java Script remarketing tag placed, audience lists or segments are generated by placing a “cookie” (small data file) on your visitors’ browser. These lists (anonymous visitors) can then be “retargeted” to ads as they browse other websites. To explain further in a less technical way, Google defines Remarketing as the following:
